I hike with my dogs, every day. En route to their favorite dog park, Sagamore Hill National Monument, we pass Mill Pond. I have been meaning to photograph these beautiful swans. This morning, roads devoid of cars, I pulled over and ran across the 2 lane street. I climbed atop a metal divider then grabbed onto a traffic sign pole for balance. To these trusting, suburban swans I represent food, so I watched the birds glide toward me from the center of the pond, their movement gracefully breaking the water’s stillness. It was hard to decide if I should capture the moment on video, or take this shot. I thought this was an auspicious sign for the New Year, even if I didn’t feed them. Here’s why.
